VEC AU Mount Alexander Shire Council Bye Election

A by-election for Tarrengower Ward will be held in February 2018. It will be conducted entirely by postal voting.

If you are correctly enrolled by 4.00 pm on Friday 15 December 2017 you will be sent a ballot pack between Tuesday 30 January and Thursday 1 February 2018.

When you receive your ballot pack you must complete your ballot paper, and return it as soon as possible using the reply paid envelope.

Alternatively, you may hand-deliver your completed ballot material to the election office during business hours from Monday 12 February 2018.

Completed ballot material must be posted or in the hands of the Returning Officer by 6.00 pm on Friday 16 February 2018, when voting closes.

The office is open to the public from Thursday 10 January to Friday 19 January (9.00 am to 5.00 pm) excluding Saturday and Sunday.

The election office will re-open on Monday 12 February (9.00 am to 5.00 pm), with extended hours on Thursday 15 February (9.00am to 8.00pm) and Friday 16 February (9.00am to 6.00pm).

Voting

This by-election will be conducted entirely by post. Ballot packs will be posted between Tuesday 30 January and Thursday 1 February 2018 to all voters enrolled in Tarrengower Ward.

Follow the instructions in the ballot pack so that your completed ballot material is in the mail before 6.00 pm on Friday 16 February 2018.

Voting is Compulsory

Voting is compulsory for voters listed on the State roll for this by-election at 4.00 pm on Friday 15 December 2017.

Enrolled residents may be fined if they do not vote—this includes homeowners and tenants.

You are encouraged to vote (but won’t be fined if you don’t) if you :
** are aged 70 years or over or
** live outside Tarrengower Ward or
** applied to Council to be on the roll.

If You will be Away

Ballot packs will be mailed between Tuesday 30 January and Thursday 1 February 2018 to all correctly enrolled voters.

** If you will be away from your mailing address when ballot packs arrive visit the election office from Wednesday 17 January to Friday 19 January and make a request to vote early. An early ballot paper can only be issued in person at the election office if the request is reasonable.

** If you will be away from your mailing address for the entire voting period, from Wednesday 17 January to Friday 16 February, you can apply for a replacement ballot pack to be mailed to an alternative address.
** Please call the election office on (03) 8619 1499 for a replacement pack.

Please note :
** Voters issued with a replacement vote may also receive a ballot pack through the general mail out—but only one vote can be returned in an election.

I have multiple properties—do I get multiple votes?
Each enrolled voter has one vote for the Tarrengower Ward by-election.

If you are on the State electoral roll within Tarrengower Ward on Friday 15 December 2017 it is compulsory to vote for that address.

If you are not on the State electoral roll for Tarrengower Ward but you own a property and are enrolled for Tarrengower Ward, you are encouraged to vote but it is not compulsory.

If you own multiple properties in Tarrengower Ward (and you are not on the State electoral roll for any of those properties), you have until 4.00 pm on Friday 15 December to nominate the property you wish to vote for. If you don’t nominate a property, the Council will choose one for you.
