Greater Geelong City Council, Kildare Ward by-election – 17 October 2015 :
A by-election for Greater Geelong City Council’s Kildare Ward will be held on 17 October. This is a postal election.

A by-election is currently being held for Greater Geelong City Council’s Kildare Ward. This is a postal election.

If you have not received your ballot pack, call 03 5223 3236 during business hours to have a replacement sent to you directly. You can also get a replacement pack from the election office:

Ground Floor, Focus 5 building, 23-31 Gheringhap Street, Geelong

The election office is open :
Monday to Friday, 9.00 am to 5.00 pm, from Wednesday 9 September until Wednesday 14 October. Extended opening hours will apply on Thursday 15 October (9.00 am to 8.00 pm) and Friday 16 October (9.00 am to 6.00 pm).

Your completed ballot material must reach the Returning Officer by 6.00 pm on Friday 16 October. It should be posted as soon as possible, following the instructions in the ballot pack, or can be delivered to the election office in person.

Are you enrolled? :
You are already enrolled for this by-election if :
** you will be 18 years of age or over on Saturday 17 October 2015
** you live in Kildare Ward and
** you are on the State electoral roll for your present address.

You may also be on the roll for this by-election if you have previously applied directly to Greater Geelong City Council, or if you own or pay rates for a property or corporation within Kildare Ward.

If you recently moved into Kildare Ward and did not update your address details before Friday 21 August you may not be able to vote in this election.

If you recently moved within or moved out of Kildare Ward and did not update your address details before Friday 21 August you will be sent a ballot pack for your previous address.

Voting :
This is a postal election. Ballot packs are posted to all voters enrolled in Kildare Ward between Tuesday 29 September and Thursday 1 October.

Follow the instructions in the ballot pack so that your completed ballot material is in the hands of the Returning Officer by 6.00 pm on Friday 16 October.

Voting is compulsory :
Voting is compulsory for voters listed on the State roll for this by-election at 4.00 pm on Friday 21 August 2015. Enrolled residents may be fined if they do not vote—this includes homeowners and tenants.

You are encouraged to vote (but won’t be fined if you don’t) if :
** you are aged 70 years or over or
** you live outside Kildare Ward or
** you applied to Council to be on the roll.

The City of Greater Geelong is divided into twelve wards. Windermere Ward is in the north and includes Lara and Point Wilson. Corio Ward includes part of Corio and Norlane. Cowie Ward includes part of North Geelong, Batesford, Bell Post Hill, Bell Park and Hamlyn Heights. Kildare Ward includes Herne Hill, Manifold Heights and Newtown. Brownbill Ward covers Geelong West, Geelong and parts of South and East Geelong. Deakin Ward includes Highton, Wandana Heights and Waurn Ponds. Kardinia Ward includes Belmont. Austin Ward includes Newcomb, Whittington and Breakwater. Buckley Ward in the south includes Grovedale, Connewarre and Barwon Heads. Cheetham Ward includes Leopold and Drysdale. Coryule Ward includes Portarlington, Indented Head and part of Clifton Springs. Beangala Ward includes Ocean Grove and Point Lonsdale.
