Budget 2022

Greens welcome support to address youth homelessness :
Posted by Marama Davidson May 19, 2022 2:10 PM
** The Green Party welcomes the additional investment in Budget 2022 for kaupapa Māori support services, homelessness outreach services, the expansion of transitional housing, and a new supported accommodation service for rangatahi.
** The funding in Budget 2022 comes at a critical time for those at risk of, or experiencing, homelessness – with many people in Aotearoa facing housing insecurity issues that are complex and decades in the making
** Green Party Co-leader and housing spokesperson Marama Davidson says.
** This significant investment in Budget 2022 makes a clear commitment to take better care of our young people and recognises that rangatahi with higher, more complex needs require bespoke support.
** Addressing homelessness for our young people not only gives them the best chance possible of leading quality lives, it’s also one of the easiest ways we can prevent homelessness recurring throughout their lives.
** Every person in Aotearoa deserves access to appropriate housing. The wellbeing of our young people, and our families and whānau starts with warm, dry, affordable homes.
** We are pleased to see the budget respond to the priority areas that were identified in the recent review of the Aotearoa New Zealand Homelessness Action Plan including helping rangatahi and young people into safe and stable accommodation, alongside strengthening kaupapa Māori responses.
** We know there is more work to be done. Far too many people, young and old in Aotearoa experience homelessness.
** The Green Party will not stop this mahi until all have a safe, warm, dry home to live in, put down roots in their communities, and thrive.
** There are few things more important to people and whānau than the homes and communities they live in and the Green Party is proud that the work we are doing through the co-operation agreement is getting more pūtea where it’s needed most. We will continue to make more progress until all people in Aoteaora have a safe place where they can put down roots.
