Issuance Duplicate NID :
If a National Identity Card of any citizen is lost or damaged in any way, he or she may make an application in prescribed manner, and subject to payment of prescribed fees, to the Commission for a fresh one.

Upon receiving an application the Election Commission shall, within a prescribed time and in the prescribed manner, issue a fresh National Identity Card to such citizen.
Validity of NID and Re-Registration :
The National Identity Card issued to a citizen shall be valid for fifteen years from the date of its issuance.
Every citizen shall have to make, at least six months before the expiry of the validity of a National Identity Card, an application for Re-Registration thereof to the Commission in the prescribed manner and subject to payment of prescribed fees.
Upon receiving an application the Election Commission shall Re-Register the National Identity Card within a prescribed time and in the prescribed manner.
Amendment of NID :
The information or data upon which a National Identity Card is issued to any citizen :
a) May, if necessary, be amended by the Commission in the prescribed manner upon an application made by any citizen subject to payment of prescribed fees; or
b) May, if not recorded properly, be amended by the Commission upon an application made by any citizen without payment of any fees.
Use of NID in Receiving Certain Services :
The Government may, by notification in the official Gazette and optionally in addition to that by notification in electronic Gazette, introduce a system to produce National Identity Card of any citizen and to submit a copy thereof in receiving any services or civil facilities mentioned in such notification.
Provided that such notification shall not be published or system shall not be introduced until the activities of issuance of National Identity Card to the citizens are completed generally throughout Bangladesh.
No Citizen shall be made bound to show his or her National Identity Card, or to submit a copy thereof until the notification under sub-section (1) is published, and he or she shall not be deprived of receiving any service or civil facilities due to not having the National Identity Card.
